Email Software - RIM Shares Slip on Microsoft Move

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Research In Motion Ltd. fell more than 2% Monday after Microsoft Corp. said it will supply its mobile email software to wireless-phone makers such as Motorola Inc. and carriers such as Vodafone and Cingular Wireless.
Microsoft is taking aim at RIM's popular BlackBerry wireless device, which uses propriety software to enable customers to download email. More than 4.3 customers worldwide use the BlackBerry.
Microsoft announced its revised mobile-email software at a global wireless forum in Barcelona. Motorola and Hewlett-Packard have signed up to use Microsoft's email software in handheld devices, or "smart phones" they plan to sell. Motorola showed off its slim Q handheld device in Barcelona.
